The plans I have…

“I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord.

I love a new calendar in January!

…A blank space

…A fresh day planner

…An empty page

I bought a calendar with extra large squares for my home. I bought a day planner with hours of the day for my purse. I bought a wall calendar for my office and an appointment calendar too. Also, for Christmas, I received a “Bible Thought for the Day” calendar. I know I also have a schedule calendar on my computer and one on my phone, for which I have yet to decipher the instructions. But well, I need ALL of these…

So I know the plans I have for me.

So I can write in my work appointments…and personal appointments with medical doctors, dentists, beauticians, repairmen, pest inspectors, and accountants… so I can do the errand running, grocery shopping, bill paying, tax paying, teaching, socializing and working. Now on January 1, 2010, only a few hours into the New Year, I sit down with these nice fresh new calendars and fill in the blanks…

So I know the plans I have for me.

Now you might think I am complaining but on the contrary, I love being busy! It makes me feel important, needed, essential and purposeful. Hey, here is proof that I have a Purpose Driven Life, right!? Well, driven anyway… There is much talk about simplifying life but I must confess. I am not much attracted to the simple life. I am, in reality, attracted to the complex life. Like a moth to flame I am attracted by the light and glitz of the world, the illusions created by busyness. I love a new calendar in January…

So I know the plans I have for me.

“I know the plans I have for you,”

says the Lord.

Jeremiah 29:11

Dear Lord Jesus,

I know the plans I have for me.

Forgive me.

Calm me down.

Slow me down.

And may I recognize the plans You have for me this New Year. Amen
